The 50-minute Therapeutic Hour

Rumour has it that Sigmund Freud had a problem with his bladder and could only last about 50 minutes before having to run to the bathroom. Although we might not know for certain if this rumour is true, he is widely credited for creating the “50min Therapeutic Hour”. In modern times most therapists still make use of the 50min therapeutic hour to write progress notes, prepare for the next client and yes, quickly run to the bathroom. 

At the end of a session I suggest a 10 minute reflection breather, where you can unwind, refocus and transition back into the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Have a cup of tea in the garden, do a quick meditation or even take a powernap on one of my couches.

1. Make sure you are in a warm, private space in your house or office.

2. Sit in a comfortable chair or on a couch.

3. Headphones are recommended, but not required.

4. Check that you have a good network speed. Use to check your speed.
